10 Essentials for Business Newbies

10 Business Essentials Erika Tebbens Consulting

Over the years I have run various types of businesses and been a boss to many different people. I've also started several of my own businesses that I've loved for various reasons. If you’d like to read about why I left one of these businesses, even though it was successful, I’ve got a post about it here.

In each circumstance there were also various things I have struggled with and different skills I needed to learn or hone.

That being said, I realized there are ten actions and attitudes that truly make a difference!

It doesn't matter what type of business you are running, these are always applicable. Maybe you are in a slump with your business and are looking to hit the "reset button;" these will work for you as well. More on this in my post about burnout.

The short of it is that mindset, goal setting, and a plan always need to come first.

Without goals, and plans to reach them, you are like a ship that has set sail with no destination.

It's so important to narrow your focus, because this will help you clear out some of the "noise" in your brain that tells you that you should be doing everything at once.

Next, it's important to put your plan to work and to be consistent in your efforts. It's always ok to change a plan or adjust your goals along the way if you find that something isn't serving you, but consistency is key!

Lastly, keep at it. The universal truth that comes with hustle is that not everything is going to go perfectly, and a lot of your work will be challenging, especially as you are learning. This doesn't mean it will always be, but take heart that everyone who tries to build a business meets failure, and it's in failure that usually the most important lessons occur.
